Report to Region IX Presidents – July 2005
The IIMC Board met via Conference Call on July 12,
2005. The following items were discussed:
Discussion item #1: Update
on search for Director of Education/Research
Advertisements have been placed and applications
are being received. The Search Committee is eliminating the
unqualified and thanking the applicants for their interest. The
committee will conduct phone interviews on August 2 and personal
interviews at the DC satellite office on August 12 and 13. The
advertisement will be changed to reflect no deadline for submitting
applications. The committee does not recommend that we consider a
proposal from Jim Kaatz to be the interim director at this time. Jim
has been notified.
Discussion item #2: Update
on search for Executive Director.
The Executive Committee is still reviewing
possibilities for hiring an Executive Director, including a possible
Interim Director.
Discussion item #3: Proposal
to hire a contracted Accountant
The Executive Committee proposed and the Board
concurred with the hiring of Richard Klabunde as a contracted
accountant for IIMC. He will work three days a week for each week in
a month where there are four weeks. In months where there are five
weeks, he will take that week off. The Executive Committee is
confident that the move from a full-time bookkeeper to a part-time
accountant will satisfy IIMC’s needs and will save about $26,000 a
year. Richard will be a contracted employee with no benefits. He is
on a month-to-month contract that can be cancelled at any time by
either party.
Discussion Item #4: Purchase
of computer hardware, software, and training
The Executive Committee has been working with an
IT consultant, Frank Bloomquist. The depth of problems with the
computer systems at the headquarters were extensive. Therefore, EC
authorized the purchase of 6 brand name computers (Dell) to replace
the home made machines which fail regularly and were put back
together with band-aids. The EC also authorized the upgrading of
software, graphic programs and hardware, and training in the use of
the existing software programs. It is felt that IIMC Headquarters
has good, or maybe even, very good software programs, which could do
so much for IIMC, but staff had not been trained in the use of the
program. Training will help everyone use the existing software to
serve our members.
Discussion Item #5: Lawsuits
President Morrow reported that the IIMC attorney
is responding to the lawsuits with speed and determination. The
Executive Committee is very confident with the Attorney’s strategy
for IIMC’s defense.
Sheri and I would like to thank President Morrow and the Executive
Committee for the hard work they are doing to bring forth information to
the Board of Directors. Please do not hesitate to call either one of us
(Gail – 503-681-5117 or Sheri – 907-935-2992) if you have questions or
comments.
