MASTER MUNICIPAL CLERK'S ACADEMY - MMCA

Effective January 1, 2000, the Master Municipal Clerks Academy (MMCA) replaced the  Academy for Advanced Education (AAE). The Academy program requirements remain the same as the former AAE program. Only the name of the Academy, the names of the levels of study, and the program awards will change.

Members currently in the AAE program will continue in the program just as they are doing now. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Sustaining Levels will be known as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Levels. One pin will be awarded on entry into the MMC. No other pins will be given for completing the various program levels, as is currently the practice in the AAE program.

The MMCA Program establishes the ultimate professional designation for Municipal Clerks known as the Master Municipal Clerk (MMC). The MMC designation recognizes individual efforts in continuing professional education and simplifies the professional designation beyond the CMC level.

Here's how the MMC designation works: While Clerks are working on their MMCA program, they will carry only the CMC designation after their name. The AAE designation will no longer be used. Once Clerks complete their 3rd level of MMCA, they can apply for their MMC designation. Upon receipt of the MMC designation, the CMC is eliminated and Clerks will carry only the MMC after their name.

To pursue the MMC designation, Clerks must be an active member of IIMC, fulfill all CMC requirements, and complete all requirements to enter the Master Municipal Clerks Academy (MMCA).

A minimum of one-year following receipt of the CMC designation must elapse before a Clerk will be eligible to enter the MMCA program. Clerks can continue working toward Academy entrance. However, IIMC will not consider the MMCA application until this one year has passed.

Current 3rd Sustaining Level AAE members are eligible to apply for the MMC designation. On applying for the MMC designation, a Clerk must sign a statement of continued commitment to life-long learning and public service, and complete and action plan on how they will apply knowledge gained to benefit the community and the Municipal Clerk profession.
