Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC)
CMC Application
Basic Requirements:
- be a Municipal Clerk or Deputy Clerk
- be a member of IIMC for two years
- be at least 18 years old
- believe in and practice the IIMC Code of
Ethics
- submit an approved IIMC application form
with appropriate documentation and the required fee
- furnish a letter from a fellow clerk as a
sponsor
Standards for Certification:
In addition to meeting the basic requirements,
an applicant must attain a total of 100 points - 50 points in each following
category:
I. Education
- Bachelors degree in Public Administration or
related field - 50 points
- Satisfactory completion of an IIMC-approved
Municipal Clerk's Institute - 50 points
- Associate of Arts degree in Public
Administration or related field - 25 points
- Bachelors degree in an unrelated field - 25
points
II. Experience
- Experience as full-time, administrative,
Municipal Clerk or Deputy Clerk 4 points per year, maximum of 40 points
- Experience as part-time or non
administrative Municipal Clerk or Deputy Clerk - 2 points per year, maximum
of 40 points
- Other full-time administrative position in
local government prior to becoming Municipal Clerk or Deputy Clerk - 2
points per year, maximum 30 points
- Administrative position in federal, state or
province government - 1 point per year, maximum 30 points.
- Administrative position in business - 1
point per year, maximum 30 points.
- Attendance at IIMC Annual Conference - 4
points per year, maximum 20 points.
- Attendance at State, Provincial, or Regional
Clerks' meetings - 2 points per year, maximum 10 points.
- Education courses and in-service training
relating to your position - 1 point for each 10- hour course, maximum 10
points.
- Relevant university or college credited
course work - 1/2 point per credit hour, maximum 25 points.
- Satisfactory completion of the Home Study
Course in Supervisory Management for Municipal Clerks offered through
Michigan State University - 5 points, maximum 5 points.
