Washington Municipal Clerks Association
Executive Committee Monthly Report
June 2008
By Karen Kuznek-Reese,
Board Member
Three significant
actions were taken by the IIMC Board of Directors at their annual
meeting in
Atlanta. The
following are to be implemented immediately:
1) Reduce
the MMC annual point candidacy requirements from 12 to 6 (either
Education or Social/Professional points)
2) Eliminate
the Bachelor Degree requirement for MMC certification
3) Extend
the “grace period” to complete CMC and MMC certification programs
through 2009.
Education
continues to be at the top of the list of Board concerns; please
watch for a membership survey in the upcoming months that will help
guide IIMC in its strategic planning process for the next five
years.
If you haven’t
checked out the last Region IX newsletter yet, please go to
www.wmcaclerks.org/ and click on Region IX
report. Thanks to Historical Committee Chair Erin Larson for
sharing some great photos of our WMCA Conference in Wenatchee!!
Another Region IX
newsletter is in the works with more news from the IIMC conference
and our region. Please don’t hesitate to contact either of your
Region IX representatives: Pam Kolacy
(360-379-5045)
pkolacy@cityofpt.org) or
Colleen Nicol, (951-826-5818)

related questions.
Plans are underway
for
Fall
Academy. This will be
worth 3 points. There is a possibility this will be offered two
times; once on the east side of the mountains and again on the west
side. More information will be available at a later date.
P.D. Classes are Coming Soon!
Thanks to Washington clerks for
their continued support and attendance at the Northwest Clerks
Institute. We have a record-breaking number of students
registered for PD I and the MMC Academy this year (both over 50!) This
is the way we keep our Institute thriving and viable to provide the
best education we can for our members. The Institute is
especially proud of the generosity of our members which resulted in
the awarding of several WMCA scholarships.
The dates for the
sessions are:
PD I - June 2-6, 2008
PD II
- June 9-13, 2008
PD III
- June 16-20, 2008
Academy (PDIV) -
June 11-14, 2008
2009 Annual WMCA Conference
It’s never too
soon to start planning (and budgeting) for the 2009 WMCA Annual
Conference at the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino in Ocean Shores. The theme is yet to be determined
though our conference planning and education committees have already
toured the facility and are hard at work making arrangements for
great educational programs and another top-notch conference. The
Academy session will be held on Tuesday, March 17. The Conference
starts on Wednesday, March 18 and ends on March 20.
To help plan for
your budget, registration fees for 2008 were $300 for the conference
and $125 for the academy. Put the dates on your calendar now so you
don’t miss out!
Conference Donations are Starting to Arrive
The
Scholarship Committee has received a donation of a $100 gift card
for gasoline. Thank you to Marla Neville in South Prairie for
securing this donation!

forthcoming and will be posted on our website.
Karol Jones is
retiring.
The City of Poulsbo will be saying
farewell to their City Clerk Karol Jones. Karol has been a part of
the City for the better part of 28 years. For those of you who know
Karol the consensus is she is one of the nicest people you could
ever meet and to work for, I must say. Her conscientious,
methodical and thoughtful ways have been her trademark and an
attribute the staff at the City of Poulsbo have come to rely upon. The skills,
ability and knowledge she takes with her will be greatly missed.
Karol had
intentions of retiring later this fall, however while expecting her
first grandbaby she excitedly moved her retirement date to June 30th.
Karol is now a proud grandmother to Addisyn Raelaine and looks
forward to spending time watching her after her daughter returns to
work. The staff at the City of
Poulsbo will
greatly miss seeing Karol’s smiling face every day and we wish her
all the luck and fun in her retirement.
Karol’s last day
of work will be June 27th and staff will be hosting a
retirement party at
Poulsbo
City Hall on June 26th.
We would like to encourage all who know Karol to attend. For more
information contact Jill Boltz at 360-697-8229 or
